In questo corso descriveremo con linguaggio biochimico e con l’ausilio di schemi semplici i meccanismi che determinano la comparsa delle mutazioni del DNA nelle cellule tumorali. Il corso non esamina le conseguenze funzionali delle mutazioni dei geni nel cancro, ma si limita alla descrizione dei meccanismi responsabili della loro genesi.
Per giungere a questo obiettivo saranno illustrati i principali meccanismi di danno al DNA (da radiazioni, da composti chimici esogeni, da processi metabolici endogeni, da reazioni chimiche spontanee del DNA, da errori replicativi) e i relativi sistemi di riparazione (BER, NER, MMR, NHEJ, HR, BIR, MGMT, complesso FANC).

In today's globalized world, the health professional has often the need to communicate in English with patients and colleagues. The aim of this course is not that of teaching how to read a medical text, but to help you to practice your profession in English, possibly in a human context different from the one you are familiar with. The first two videos concern the cultural barriers that may hamper communication with patients of a different ethnic background. In the following videos, the health professionals enter a virtual hospital, meet its staff, and visit its individual operating units. Later on, they encounter patients, collect their medical histories, perform their physical examination, set down medical records, request diagnostic tests, and prescribe therapy.

Several videos concern specific medical areas, for which typical dialogue situations are represented using the most frequent medical terms. The focus is not on technical words, but on the common terms that the patient may use. In all these scenarios, possible differences between the Anglo-Saxon and Italian interpersonal approach are emphasized for the purpose of fostering trust and communication with the patient. The course includes 24 video for a total of more than 6 hours.

Il corso "La cultura e la medicina di genere" affronta il tema delle differenze di genere  approfondendone sia la dimensione educativa e comunicativa nelle relazioni di cura, fino al tema della violenza,  sia quella legata alla clinica medica. L'obiettivo è quello di chiarire gli aspetti definitori del ruolo della donna nelle varie aree di interesse e superare alcuni preconcetti diffusi nella società attuale.

Chronische Nierenerkrankungen (CKD) werden als Veränderungen der Nierenfunktion, welche länger als drei Monate andauern und gesundheitliche Auswirkungen nach sich ziehen, definiert. Chronische Nierenerkrankungen werden mit zunehmendem Lebensalter häufiger und stellen vor allem bei älteren Menschen eine Herausforderung für das Gesundheitssystem und im Gesundheitsbereich Beschäftigte, wie Ärzte, Diplomiertes Pflegepersonal, Pharmazeuten und andere dar. Gemäß der aktuellen Evidenzlage reicht die Krankheitsprävalenz bei Erwachsenen von 10.2% bis 16%, wobei diese in der Altersgruppe 75+ bis zu über 50% erreichen kann. Es ist auf Grund der demografischen Entwicklungen zu erwarten, dass es in den kommenden Jahrzehnten auch zu einer zahlenmäßigen Zunahme von Patienten kommen wird, welche an einer Einschränkung der Nierenfunktion leiden. Begleitend zur Nierenerkrankung und der häufig damit verbundenen Multimorbidität tragen vor allem ältere Patienten ein erhöhtes Risiko für funktionelle physische und kognitive Einschränkungen und Behinderung.

Dieser MOOC informiert über Alterungsprozesse und deren Auswirkung auf die Nierenfunktion. Weiters werden die Bestimmungsmethoden zur Ermittlung der Nierenfunktion und die Herausforderung der Methoden bei älteren Patienten beleuchtet. Im letzten Kurs des MOOC wird speziell auf das Komplexmanagement vor allem älterer Patienten mit eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion eingegangen.
