iMooX.at, founded in December 2013 by Graz University of Technology and Karl-Franzens-University Graz, is Austria’s first and so far, only MOOC platform. On iMooX.at, free online courses on various topics are offered, which are available to all interested parties free of charge, independent of time and location. We strongly follow our goal to make learning content available to a broad section of the population at a university level and to give as many people as possible the opportunity to further their education. Every semester the platform’s offer is supplemented by further exciting courses.
In contrast to the US American competitors, all learning offers of iMooX.at are not only accessible free of charge, but also freely reusable. In principle, the so-called Creative Commons licenses are used, which means that all content offered on iMooX.at can be used for your own (teaching and learning) purposes and can also be reused (free of charge). iMooX.at therefore relies exclusively on Open Educational Resources.
Since January 20, 2020 iMooX.at is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research in a project in close cooperation with the University of Vienna. The project goal can be pointed out as: “iMooX.at is currently operated by the Graz University of Technology and will be expanded technically, organizationally and logistically so that in the medium term all Austrian universities can offer MOOCs on the platform, bearing in mind the state of the art of media didactics and online teaching & learning.
As of today (April 2021) more than 50000 users are registered and more than 145 MOOCs have already been performed together with more than 70 partners in the field of higher education and beyond.
